Mike Hayden’s Sponsored Bike Ride 64 Mile Tour Of Pembrokeshire

Mike Hayden very kindly donated his sponsorship money raised and was very generously matched by Barclay’s Bank  Total raised £1530.00

In Mike’s word’s he explained

In terms of the event it was a 64 mile tour of Pembrokeshire and took place on the 12th of June 2011. I entered the event as a dare on new yrs day with a friend and started training in February. I have not completed anything of this type before and not a keen cyclist. However, I have to say that I really enjoyed the training and was in really good physical condition for the event. What I wasn’t ready for were the conditions.I was hoping as it was June that  it would be a pleasantly warm day and that I would be able to enjoy some of the spectacular scenery around Pembrokeshire! Unfortunately a freak 12 hrs weather hit Pembrokeshire on the day of the ride and it not only absolutely pored with rain but we were also met with gale force winds which made the course very very challenging. The last 10 miles or so were directly into the headwinds and by the time I arrived back in Saundersfoot some 6hrs 24 mins later I don’t think I could have ridden another 100 yds. I have to say that I almost threw the bike into the sea with a promise not to ride a bike ever again! However after drying off and recovering I did felt a huge sense of achievement as only around 200 of the 700 entrants completed the ride.I was absolutely delighted to support the fund and this kept me going till the end as I didn’t want to let anyone down.

We would like to thank Mike  and Barclay’s Bank for there very kind gesture in supporting Rachel’s Fund

Our new total £45.704.45
